2016-02-06 Slabbing an Olive Log

When our former neighbors Errol & Melody moved away, they offered us a number of yard maintenance tools, including a little electric chainsaw. I thought "some day, I might be able to use that to mill some wood"...

Recently, someone up in Santa Rosa asked the Sonoma County Woodworker's Association if anyone might be interested in some felled olive wood. I allowed as how I might like a 6' long 12" or so diameter log, if such were available.

Today those two things came together. If I do this again, it'd probably be worth actually building a sled and some sort of track, to keep the amount of waste to a minimum and keep the cuts straighter, but this is pretty spectacular.
